Canadian experiments with mice suggest that sildenafil, a constituent part of Viagra, may help patients with muscular dystrophy. Mice with muscular dystrophy were given the active constituent of Viagra and an improvement was noted in heart muscle cells. This Montreal Heart Institute study is a long way from a solution for sufferers, as human reactions are not always the same as those in mice, but the findings are encouraging. With an increased level of blood flow to the heart it can stay healthy even when its muscle is weakened. Research also indicates that the other impotence medicines, Cialis and Levitra, may also be beneficial for dystrophy sufferers. There is a long way to go but it seems possible that this most recognised of drugs may have found yet another helpful role to add to the existing long list. |
