The MHRA have issued a warning that the herbal weight loss pill "Herbal Floss Lonicerae (Herbal Xenicol) Natural Weight Loss Formula" may produce alarming side effects. This pill is widely sold over the internet and in some retail outlets, and anyone currently using the product is advised to stop taking it immediately and consult their healthcare professional. The MHRA have had reports of palpitations, severe gastritis and abdominal pain, as well as insomnia after taking the capsules. One person has been hospitalised. So-called Herbal products can pose a risk to the public which is why the Traditional Herbal Registration scheme(THR) is being introduced by the EU. The title "Herbal" gives products an aura of purity which can be totally unjustified. The herbal impotence medicines such as "Herbal Viagra" often contain dangerous prescription drugs without warning. Hopefully no one will be permanently damaged by this product.
Following tests the MHRA have issued a warning on 11th February 2011 which says that these pills contain more than twice the prescription dose of the powerful BANNED pharmaceutical ingredient "sibutramine". The licence for this product was withdrawn in January 2010 after warnings from the European Medicines Agency that it increased the risk of strokes and heart attacks. |
