The University of Cambridge, the Medical Research Council and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have combined to form the unique Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS).
The aim is to focus on the understanding of Diabetes, Obesity and all related disorders from a biological point of view so as to improve prevention of diseases and care. The institute is to be housed in a new facility on the Cambridge Biomedical campus and bring together all the associated areas of research so that there can be daily input from all perspectives of the subject and interaction between complimentary sciences.
They aim amongst other things to reduce the incidence of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, as they can have such a dramatic effect on lifestyle, including a subject that is one of our own specialities, Impotence.
